The Evelyn Skirt by Chalk and Notch

One of my favourite indie pattern companies to work with is Chalk and Notch. I’ve said this many times before but their instructions are by far the best I’ve ever read amongst the community and the fit of their patterns, across the size ranges on offer, are truly wonderful. As someone who’s proportions can cause a lot of grading, I rarely encounter this with their patterns and if I do the instructions perfectly define what I need to do. That being said, I was over the moon when they asked me to help with the release of their new patterns.

The first was the Max Tee. I love this one. I made mine in a deadstock french terry from Harmony Provo. I loved the vibrant colour in this silhouette and especially loved the heavier weight french terry in this pattern. This pattern can be used with lots of different knit weights. It’s all about preference here. This pattern will definitely be on high rotation throughout the warmer months but maybe not as much as the Evelyn skirt.

The Evelyn skirt is fun, flirty and a fast sew. I made view C as my weight fluctuates and I prefer the elastic waistband. This pattern can also be made in different substrates. I opted for linen with mine that I picked up from the NYC garment district. It’s more of the light side for linen weight but it’s not too light. Many testers made their versions in rayon which really brought the elegance to this pattern. Those who opted to sew the mini skirt view used more medium weight fabrics that also looked amazing. It has three different iterations in the one pattern. Within these three views you can use so many different types and weights of fabric which will allow for so many variations. I can’t wait to try the other versions myself!

For my version, I made the straight size 20. It fits me so perfectly. The only change I made was the length of my elastic for my waistband. When I tried it on (don’t worry it tells you in the instructions) it was really loose so I took 3-4” off mine. It’s so perfect and I truly love the result. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve worn a skirt with a slit and I am in love. I can’t wait to make many more because it’s just that good!

I plan to wear my Max tee and Evelyn skirt together come Summer. Right now Utah can’t decide what season we’re in so hopefully the warm weather makes an appearance soon. I hope you love my new makes as much as I do. I really love the feel of them and the look so that’s a double win in my books. What fabric do you think I should make them in next?
