Sweater No. 18 by My Favourite Things
Oh no, it’s that time again where I’ve spent way too much time knitting and all the sewists that follow along my journey tune out. Well, I’m sorry (not sorry) in advance that knitting is highly addictive and I have no intent on stopping.
Today’s post is a first; it’s the first time that I bought a pattern when it was released and actually finished it in a relatively fast time frame (for me). I am not a fast knitter. I am still very much a beginner and I throw over my yarn. IYKYK. Which inherently makes me a slow knitter. This pattern from My Favourite Things was teased for what seemed like an eternity and my friend Mel and I just kept stalking their insta page until it was released.
As soon as it was released I rushed to Harmony Provo to pick up my yarn. I was super happy when Mel said I could use Deluxe Chunky from Universal. It’s now discontinued, but it’s one of my favourite yarns to work with. I used the colour Heather for mine. Now I was initially skeptical if I could actually make this sweater; it looks so complex, but Mel assured me that it was just knits and purls. With that in mind I went for it. Guess what, I made two mistakes, but as my son’s kindergarten teacher states “mistakes are how we learn.” One mistake really ate at me for the whole sweater. I clearly read something incorrectly and purled when I should have knitted. It was only two stitches but of course those two stitches were on the back shoulder where you can clearly see them! The second was on one sleeve where I clearly didn’t count my stitches properly and didn’t realise till I hit a row of K1,P1. I just added in a stitch and called it a day.
This pattern really is beginner friendly. It really is just knits and purls and the only really difficult thing is the italian bind off, which there are alternatives for but I’m stubborn and learnt the italian bind off and now it’s like the only one I know really well. I’m so excited to make another one sometime soon, but I probably should finish the current cardigan I’m working on! Happy knitting!
