Retro Florals by House That Lars Built Feat. The Anthea Blouse Pattern

NEWFLASH!

Has anyone else checked out the new fabric range from House That Lars Built on Spoonflower? Now this is not a paid post or collab. I was scrolling through the feed and saw a sneak peek and messaged Brittany immediately asking what that delicious fabric was. She replied with “do you want some?” Yes, yes I did. It helps to have Brittany as a local friend. Thanks Brittany!

I was so excited that I was getting this fabric and then cute Jasper delivered it to my door and then my kids got to meet Jasper and it was a fun chaotic time. Brittany even got to see my last overalls before anyone else because I was in the middle of deciding the hem and was wearing them.

Anywho, back to the dress. I used the 3” square version of the retro florals. I was a goose and totally ordered too little. So I placed another order for 2 more yards. So the dress took a total of 4.5 yards but you can’t order 0.5 increments on spoonflower so I’m hoping to use the last bit to squeeze out a dress for my youngest.

The dress pattern used was the Anthea Blouse from Anna Allen Clothing. This is my 8th Anthea and I cannot rave about it enough however it isn’t the most size inclusive if you’re on the larger end so I hope she does expand in future. I did my usual hack of shortening the bodice and adding a gathered skirt but this time I added ruffles. I measured where I wanted them to sit on the back and front and multiplied that measurement by 1.5. I also added notch marks after I cut down through the bodice back and front pieces. I added ½” seam allowance on both sides of the cut. It worked out really well, considering I didn’t even do a toile. Last change was adding thickness to the sleeve cuff. I think I doubled it. I didn’t want to make it too thick cos then we’d be heading into long sleeve territory.

The sew up was great. It came together a lot faster than I expected and I got it done in two days. I finished it off with some super cute buttons I found online. I was really lucky. I have a vision in mind and happen to find the right ones. I was going for the vibe of “I walked into an expensive Scandinavian store and bought a dress.” So hopefully that’s the vibe you’re getting.

I’m hoping that you all love this dress as much as I do. It’s been a while since I did a really loud dress and it feels good to be back. Now to make sure Brittany doesn’t try to steal it*! Haha!

*UPDATE: Brittany got a copy made and I feel so happy that she loved it enough to get herself one too!
