Minerva Round 4: Make it Marimekko but without the pricetag

I've always loved Marimekko but can't necessarily afford it on the regular. So today I'll be showing you my Marimekko dupe using the most divine polka fabric you've ever seen!

Growing up with a colourful mum meant that I was exposed to a lot of colour. Like every kid grows up around colour but when you combine my mum's love for colour and my dad's Indian heritage then you've got a kid that lives and breathes colour! So it was no surprise when I became fascinated with Marimekko. I think I was 16 when I first caught a glimpse of some vintage Marimekko. It was love at first sight.

So today here are pictures of my new large print, navy and white polka dot dress. I used a new Simplicity pattern (s9057) I had picked up from Joann. It's also a mother daughter pattern so I cannot wait to make a matching dress for my daughter. But for now it's just me since I underestimated how much fabric I'd need for the one dress. Something I've become very good at, underestimating fabric. A habit I hope to break out of. So for now here's my Marimekko dupe dress. It's a completely different style to what I usually make and wear but I really love how it turned out. You can read all about the details soon on the Minerva blog. But for now here's the best part...PICTURES!
