Megan Nielsen’s Jarrah Sweater

It’s super funny how the makes that you wear all the time take the longest time to get online. To say I’ve been living in this sweater would be a severe understatement. When I first saw this fabric I knew I had to have it. I’d been searching for a great print on sweater fabric, but alas there’s not actually that many to choose from online. Thankfully Minerva actually has a great range. I even got some brightly coloured french terry on here which is also hard to come by! Trust me I’ve done the research.

So back to this fabric. Not only is the print super cute but it’s got a fur back! You heard right, a furry back. It’s so unbelievably soft and lush. When my husband first touched it he didn’t want to give it up. He’s like “no, this isn’t for clothing, it needs to be an epic blanket!” I’m not kidding, this is probably the softest fabric I’ve ever felt and I was probably delayed in making it because I kept touching it and using it as a blanket in my sewing room. It’s just that comfortable. It’s set the standard now for comfortable fabric. It’s like when you do business class and you have a hard time going back to economy.

There was no question in my mind that I was going to make a sweater once my husband stopped asking for a blanket. I decided on the Jarrah sweater from Megan Nielsen. I had this pattern in my stash for about a year but never got around to making it until recently. Would probably have helped if I didn’t buy it in the middle of Summer. There’s a few things I'd like to mention with this pattern. It’s a super fast sew up, it doesn’t have a lot of pattern pieces and it’s got different views, so it’s got a sweater for everyone. There’s also two size ranges available: 0-20 and 14-30!

For my sweater I did view A with cuffs and a hemband. I wasn’t too sure how this fabric would hold up as cuffs since it’s so, so soft so I opted for a light blue ribbing that I had on hand that matched with the light blue in the fabric. I still wanted it to be light and fun which I feel the light blue really helped do.

The sew up for this was really good. I used my overlocker/serger that I’ve historically been really scared of using. It came together in 30 mins! I couldn’t believe it. I used a twin needle to topstitch my neckline, cuffs and hemband but I totally forgot to adjust the tension and my sewing room doesn’t have much light so I didn’t notice till I did it all. So it’s a little stretched but I don’t mind at all because I get to wear a blanket disguised as a sweater everyday! Not to mention it’s a hit with everyone that sees it. It’s the perfect combination of pajama comfort, a unique print and people thinking it’s store bought. I’d say that’s a win in my book. What do you think?
