A Lady McElroy Roscoe Top
Lately I’ve been trying to focus on the holes in my wardrobe. Not physical holes, but rather the items of clothing that I am lacking. Well one item in particular I am missing is blouses. I seem to have never made a blouse, and I don’t really own any that are ready to wear. I guess up until this point I was living in tshirts. So needless to say, I was going to change this when I received this gorgeous Lady McElroy fabric in the mail.
Let’s talk about this delicious fabric. It’s so soft. SO SOFT. I cannot stress that enough, and the drape is on a whole other level. I knew it would make the most beautiful blouse, but I also wanted it to be easy to wear. So nothing fancy was on the agenda, just something that I would reach for often. I decided on the Roscoe blouse from True Bias. I have actually had this pattern for a long, long time. I’ve seen how beautiful it looks sewn up by nearly everyone in the sewing community, yet I still never got around to sewing it until now.
Before I cut anything out I read as many pattern reviews as I could. Looking at the pattern, it seemed to have a lot of ease throughout so I wanted to be sure I got the proportions correct for me. I’m also quite busty so I didn’t want to run into the trap of making it too small as well. I decided on the size 10 for the top. I’m larger on the bottom half of my body so I would definitely make my recommended size for the dress version in future but for the top the size 10 was what I was going with.
I traced out my pattern and prepared my pattern pieces. I pre-read the instructions and it all seemed really simple. I just kept thinking to myself, how had I not made this already? I then held my breath and cut into my fabric. I don’t use light weight fabric with beautiful drape fabric often, so needless to say I was nervous the entire time. I made sure I used lots of pins when cutting it out and was as precise as I could be when doing the actual cutting.
Once that was done it was time to start. I used a micro tex needle for this make. My machine isn’t the youngest and I've had issues with snagging before, so I changed to the micro tex needle and can I just say that was a great decision! It was smooth sailing with this fabric and that type of needle. I ran into no issues and the sew up itself was pretty uneventful, which is just how I like it. I did pay close attention to the neckline when I was sewing though. You need to gather the neckline and then attach the facing and ties. So I made sure to focus so I didn’t have anything slip out of place. Happy to report that it went well!
Overall, I absolutely love my new top. It’s so comfortable and just so easy to wear. Exactly what I was going for. So I think it’s safe to say that it was mission accomplished!
