The Harriet Collar

Today’s blog post is brought to you by two amazing friends that I’ve made online since discovering the sewing community. Never in my wildest dreams would I think I would make such good friendships from what I thought was a simple hobby.

If you search my early blog posts I wrote all about the time I helped my friend Mijke with launching her first sewing pattern with her friend Isabel. The pattern is aptly named after her sweet mother, the “Harriet” Blouse. I loved helping her launch and test the pattern. I made two versions, and I still receive compliments on them both till this day! So imagine how excited I was when they were preparing the next pattern, an accompaniment to the Harriet blouse, the Harriet collar! This pattern was made to allow different collar options to your Harriet blouse or to just create the collar to put under other items of clothing! I was instantly in love with all the variations available, but unfortunately I had pulled my back out during the testing and launch phase.

Following on from that rough December I knew that the first project I wanted to tackle was the new collar pattern. This project came together perfectly when I had some amazing fabric from my friend Ellen McKenna waiting to be made into something beautiful. I put the two together and I knew they were meant to be. I opted for the collar with large scallops since the fabric I was using was quite pattern heavy. I thought the subtlety of the collar would match perfectly. Not only was this my first make of 2022, but it was an enjoyable one. I was really lacking in drive, but this really healed my sewing soul.

Even though I was a little late to the party I’m so happy I showed up. I really love the collar variations of the new Harriet Collar pattern and plan to make a few more, but just the collar to put under my knitted sweaters. If you haven’t checked it out yet I really recommend it. Happy sewing!
